I didn't play football in High School, but I want to play for College. Can that be done?

Hello! I've always been a fan of football, and strangely enough, I have become infatuated with trying out for the position of Kicker in college. I have been accepted into Temple University in Philadelphia, so I would be trying out for the Temple Owls. I have absolutely no experience in that position, but I am willing to put in the time and effort (I spent all day today practicing kicking 20 yard field goals, and actually made one!) necessary for having a chance at the position. I was wondering if other people have done that in the past, or if it is even allowed? Any comments are answers are greatly appreciated, thank you!
