Kickboxing to lose weight and get toned?

I know summer is approaching, but I want to take kickboxing cles as a good workout so I can tighten my body (legs and stomach in particular, not trying to go overboard with raging muscles or anything) so I can wear a bikini for the summer. Is this a good idea? Will it work in time for swim weather?
